Tutorial – Create a rounded corners quote box in Photoshop

Using Adobe Photoshop I’m going to show you how to create a box with rounded corners, with a gradient fill and a drop shadow that can be used as a quote box, just like the one below. You can also follow the instructions below to create a rounded corners button.

1. Open Photoshop and create a new document (File > New), set the size to 300 x 300

Set the Radius to ’20 px’, don’t worry about the colour as we will be changing that later, then select the Geometry Options, set the size to 220 x 220.

Click and place your rounded corner shape as shown below (position it nearer to the top left to give you room for the drop shadow later)

3. Right click on the rounded rectangle layer in the layers palette, choose Blending options

4. Select Gradient Overlay, click the select gradient to open the Gradient Editor. Set the first colour thumb to #434343, the second one to #434343 and the third to #000000, leave the Opacity at 100% at both ends.

5. Select Stroke and enter the settings as shown below, the colour is #363636

7. Select Drop Shadow and enter the settings as shown below, the colour is #000000

photoshop-rounded-corners-box-10The font type and size I’ve used are what I thought looked best you can change this to whatever you like. Font – Arial Rounded MT Bold, Size – 120 pt, Colour – #262626.
Use the Horizontal Type Tool to create the opening quotation mark at the top and again to create the closing quotation mark at the bottom, to get the closing quotation mark just type a letter first before pressing the quotation key, you can then delete the spare letter and you are left with the closing quotation mark.

11. All done now save the project as a .psd file for furure use.
